Fees
If you do not have private health insurance, a "fixed price" scheme is available from the hospital, which guarantees the price of your hospitalisation surgical and anaesthetic costs. Further details of this scheme are available on request from the hospital. For patients with medical insurance the fees charged for the surgery will be advised with an estimate prior to surgery. The fees are according to the BMA schedule with an allowance for inflation since 1992, and you should expect these to be usually and customary settled in full by your insurance company. If your insurance cover is limited or deficient then patients do remain responsible for the settlement of the surgeons' fees.
The invoice will be sent to you by post afterwards. The fees depend on the type and complexity of the procedure performed. Although these can usually be estimated prior to surgery, on occasion the procedure undertaken will prove to be more extensive than foreseen and additional procedures, or prolonged hospital stay may prove necessary. In such situations further fees may be added to your bill. The insurance companies generally make allowances for such contingencies and have ways of calculating such additional charges. These fees are fair, reasonable and customary and should usually be settled in full by your insurance company. If there is any problem with getting reimbursement for the fees from your insurer, please let the secretary know.
Payment is requested within 14 days. Interest and a late payment fee will be added if payment is delayed by more than 30 days and further costs added if further administration is necessary to secure payment beyond this time. You should expect these to be settled in full by your insurance company. If your insurance cover is deficient then patients do remain responsible for the settlement of all the surgeon's fees. If you do not have private health insurance, a "hospital fixed price" scheme is available which guarantees the price of your hospitalisation. Further details of this scheme are available on request from the hospital.
